Nigeria Immigration Service conducts diaspora passport interventions
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is conducting a series of targeted passport intervention exercises to assist Nigerians living in the diaspora and address application backlogs. The initiative, launched under the directive of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aims to bring essential services closer to citizens in various international locations.
To date, the exercises have enrolled a total of 8,552 applicants across several countries. In the United States, 535 applicants were enrolled across Chicago, Michigan, and Milwaukee. Canada saw 2,257 enrollments in Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta, and New Brunswick. In Qatar, 751 applicants were processed.
The exercise in the United Kingdom is currently ongoing in London and Manchester, with 5,099 applicants enrolled so far. Due to high demand, the intervention in the UK has been extended. The NIS confirmed that passport production and dispatch are being carried out concurrently with the enrollment process. For those unable to attend in person, the agency encourages the use of the Contactless Passport Application System.
