Following reports of poor organization in Manchester and allegations regarding unauthorized administrative fees, the Nigeria High Commission in the UK announced it will refund £50 to applicants who were charged a £70 fee. This adjustment brings the charge down to the standard £20 administrative fee. The Federal Government and the NIS have clarified that no additional charges beyond official passport fees are required for the exercise. Due to high demand, Minister Tunji-Ojo approved an extension for the London and Manchester centers. As the exercise progressed, the NIS reported that enrollment in the United Kingdom reached 5,099 applicants. This UK operation is part of a broader global initiative that has enrolled a total of 8,552 applicants across several countries, including 535 in the United States, 2,257 in Canada, and 751 in Qatar. The NIS confirmed that passport production and dispatch are being carried out concurrently with the enrollment process. In Canada, the NiDEC Passport Intervention Programme captured 2,233 applicants across five provinces, with some participants receiving passports within four to seven days. Due to continued high demand, the NIS has further extended the Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom to October 30, 2026.
