Nigeria Immigration Service intercepts ₦34m suspected ransom in Adamawa

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Adamawa State Command has intercepted ₦34 million in cash suspected to be a ransom for a kidnapping. During the operation, two individuals were detained. According to Adamawa State Comptroller Sani Sule-Jega, preliminary investigations suggest the suspects claimed the funds were intended to pay the ransom for their abducted brother.

In a separate operation in the Yola North Local Government Area, immigration officers discovered 17 irregular migrants residing in a private three-bedroom apartment at Rumde Baruw. Profiling revealed that 13 of the migrants are Cameroonian nationals and four are Chadian nationals. Sule-Jega noted an emerging trend where undocumented migrants avoid hotels in favor of unregistered private apartments to evade detection.

The suspects and the recovered cash have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation. The NIS has pledged to intensify surveillance and intelligence-driven operations to combat irregular migration and strengthen border security in the region.
