A Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) passport intervention exercise in Manchester, United Kingdom, reportedly ended in confusion. Applicants attending the scheduled event to clear passport backlogs complained of poor organization, inadequate staffing, and a lack of security. The situation escalated to the point where UK police were called to the venue. Reports indicate the facility owner claimed he had not been paid and noted a lack of staff, with only a few individuals attended to during the first hour.

In response to ongoing issues with contactless passport applications, the NIS has requested that Nigerians in the UK who have completed applications but have not yet received their passports submit their details via a resolution form. The service is working to resolve these issues as part of a broader intervention initiative scheduled to take place in London, Manchester, Aberdeen, and Cardiff between September 7 and September 26. The NIS stated it will review submitted complaints within three working days.
