Nigeria INEC accused of yielding to ruling APC pressure ahead of 2027 elections
Human rights lawyer Ayo Ademiluyi alleges that Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is acting on behalf of the ruling elite to undermine the African Action Congress (AAC) ahead of the 2023 presidential vote. He condemns INEC’s “false legality” in factional party meetings and accuses the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Television Authority of collaborating in the scheme.
Separately, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) claims the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is mounting pressure on INEC as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi says INEC is torn between independence and political demands, urging the commission to uphold its constitutional mandate and remain impartial.
