Nigeria INEC urged to uphold integrity ahead of 2027 elections

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan told commission staff that the upcoming 2027 general elections cannot afford any failure. Speaking in Minna, he warned that the world, including the African Union and foreign observation missions, will be watching Nigeria’s presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly polls. Amupitan pledged improvements to logistics, infrastructure and transport, and announced rewards for diligent work and strict sanctions for misconduct.

Separately, Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church cautioned INEC to secure its technological systems, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and the IReV results portal, against hacking and disruption. He urged training for officials and highlighted several states—Nasarawa, Niger, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Yobe, Cross River, Oyo, Enugu, Adamawa and Lagos—where safeguards are particularly needed.
