Nigeria launches first robotic surgery academy in Ogun State

Nigeria has officially opened the Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV) Robotic Surgery Academy in Redemption City, Ogun State. The academy is a collaborative initiative between RobMed Global, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and Redeemer’s University.

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa inaugurated the facility, which features two robots valued at $4 million. The academy aims to provide advanced specialist training and build domestic expertise, reducing the need for Nigerian surgeons to travel abroad for specialized skills.

Dr. Alausa noted that the Federal Government has invested approximately ₦250 billion over the last two years into medical education, including the provision of simulation laboratories and the rehabilitation of facilities across more than 24 medical schools. To support the academy, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) will sponsor qualified medical professionals for studies. The initiative is part of a broader effort to increase medical and nursing enrollment to meet the demands of a growing population.
