Nigeria robotic surgery academy inauguration

Overview

Nigeria has inaugurated the Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV) Robotic Surgery Academy in Redemption City, Ogun State. The institution is a collaborative project involving RoboMed Global, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and Redeemer’s University.

Equipped with two robots valued at $4 million, the academy aims to train 400 robotic surgery specialists and surgeons within two years. The initiative seeks to build domestic expertise and reduce the necessity for medical tourism, which currently costs patients between $15,000 and $20,000 for specialized treatments abroad.

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa stated that the academy is part of a broader federal investment of approximately ₦250 billion into medical education over the last two years. To support the program, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) will include the academy among institutions eligible for local scholarships to sponsor qualified medical professionals.
