Nigeria launches 90,000km fibre rollout, NCC hands over Enugu digital park

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Dr Bosun Tijani announced that Nigeria will begin deploying a 90,000‑kilometre fibre‑optic network within weeks. The rollout is designed to reach every state, geopolitical zone, local government area and ward, expanding the national backbone to roughly 120‑125 km by 2030 under the Project BRIDGE initiative. The project is part of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda to grow the economy toward a $1 trillion target and follows recent sector reforms such as designating digital infrastructure as Critical National Infrastructure, tariff adjustments and tax harmonisation.

In parallel, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) signed a 15‑year lease of its Digital Industrial Park and Learning Centre to the Enugu State Government. NCC Executive Vice‑Chairman Dr Aminu Maida and Governor Peter Mbah said the facilities will be redeveloped as the Enugu Talent City and an Artificial Intelligence Institute, intended to foster digital skills, startup incubation, and job creation. Both moves aim to position Nigeria as a hub for business process outsourcing, knowledge process outsourcing and AI‑driven services, deepening the country’s digital economy.
