President Tinubu Approves New Army Battalion in Kwara State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized the creation of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Kwara State to reinforce security against banditry, terrorism and kidnapping. The battalion will be based in Omu Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area. Kwara Governor Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq praised the decision, thanking the President and Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu for processing the request swiftly. He said the new formation will boost counter‑terrorism and anti‑kidnapping operations and complement multi‑agency efforts to clear forests of criminal elements. Security officials anticipate that the additional troops and equipment will improve response capabilities in communities facing rising violent crime.
