Nigeria Ministry of Education orders return to Federal Unity Colleges

The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education has urged parents and guardians to return their children to the 117 Federal Unity Colleges following the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session. Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa issued the call amid conflicting communications circulating on social media.

The Ministry has officially disowned a group calling itself the ‘National Parent-Teacher Association’ (PTA) of the federal unity colleges, stating it does not recognize or authorize the group to speak for the institutions. Officials clarified that the association has no mandate to issue directives or appeals on behalf of parents or the schools.

Concurrently, representatives from the Federal Government Girls College, Bwari, have expressed concerns regarding the authenticity of resumption notices. The school’s PTA Chairman, Dr. Augustine Modu, stated that the association cannot currently approve or encourage resumption until safety concerns are resolved and authentic directives are issued. He advised parents to keep students academically engaged at home using existing schemes of work until conditions are deemed appropriate for their return.
