Nigeria's NDLEA Intercepts Massive Opioid Shipment and Arrests Grandfather and Female Traffickers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized a large consignment of opioids hidden in a truck transporting building materials to Jalingo, Taraba State. recovered items included 320,840 tramadol capsules, 600 ampoules of pentazocine, 4,500 rohypnol pills and 299 bottles of codeine‑based cough syrup.

Simultaneous raids in several states led to the arrest of a 75‑year‑old man, Okebe Samuel, in Ebonyi with 300 g of skunk, and a 22‑year‑old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi, detained on the truck. Female traffickers were also captured: Chioma Okeke (32) in Imo with 8 kg of skunk; Chioma Igba (24) and Precious Ozomah (22) in Edo with skunk, loud and methamphetamine; Anita Abraham (21) with Scottish loud and regular loud; Henry Okey (43) with assorted psychotropic substances; Saifullahi Lawan (19) in Kano with 38 kg of skunk; and Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi (28) in Gombe with 15,000 tramadol capsules.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the operations and reiterated the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug supply chains, while its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programme continued school sensitisation across the country.
