Nigeria NYSC members attacked in separate incidents
Two unrelated violent incidents involving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members occurred in Nigeria. In Ekiti State, hoodlums identified as political thugs opened fire at a by‑election polling unit, wounding an NYSC corps member who was serving as an ad hoc electoral officer. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition, and the Independent National Electoral Commission suspended the election pending investigation.
In Bayelsa State, the body of 27‑year‑old NYSC member Stanley Okebaram was recovered from Nembe Creek after he went missing while serving in a riverine community. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of his death, which officials initially described as a drowning, but the probe remains ongoing.
