Nigeria Police arrest four suspects in alleged kidney harvesting syndicate
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested four suspects allegedly involved in a human trafficking and illegal organ harvesting syndicate. The operation, conducted by the Special Tactical Squad, took place on August 19, 2026, in Auta Balifi, Nasarawa State.
The suspects identified include Emmanuel Ode, 23; David Idoko, 25; Dr. Benjamin Oyime, 48, a nephrologist at Wellington Clinics in Abuja; and Dr. Daniel Otukpa, 53, the clinic's Acting Director of Clinical Services. Police allege the group targeted vulnerable and uneducated young people, exploiting financial desperation to obtain consent for kidney removal.
Investigations suggest the syndicate used forged documents, including National Identification Numbers (NIN), birth certificates, and affidavits, to facilitate the crimes. One victim, Samuel Ezekiel, was allegedly paid $1,250 USD for his kidney in April 2026, while another victim claimed to have received 7 million Naira for a similar procedure in 2022.
