Police reported that the syndicate utilized forged documents, such as birth certificates and National Identification Numbers, to facilitate illegal transactions. On August 19, 2026, the Special Tactical Squad arrested four suspects in Auta Balifi, Nasarawa State, identified as Emmanuel Ode, 23; David Idoko, 25; Dr. Benjamin Oyime, 48, a nephrologist at Wellington Clinics; and Dr. Daniel Otukpa, 53, the clinic’s Acting Director of Clinical Services.

Investigations suggest the group exploited financial desperation to obtain consent for kidney removals. Specific victim accounts include Samuel Ezekiel, who was allegedly paid $1,250 USD for his kidney in April 2026, and another individual who claimed to have received 7 million Naira for a similar procedure in 2022.
