Nigeria police misconduct videos prompt investigations

A video circulated on social media showing men dressed in police uniforms forcing a suspect into the boot of a vehicle in Imo State sparked outrage. Rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu shared the clip, calling the scene "insane" and urging the Nigeria Police Force to identify and investigate the officers, while noting the possibility that the men could be impostors.

The Lagos State Police Command also opened an inquiry after a viral video showed officers assaulting a gold seller in the Festac area. The command said the officers, attached to Area E Command, were identified and summoned for investigation. Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai directed the Area Commander to produce the officers for further action. Both incidents have drawn public condemnation and calls for accountability.
