In late July 2026, Nigeria’s law‑enforcement agencies faced escalating scrutiny. An anti‑graft body, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, attempted to interview a suspect linked to a dubious council allegedly funded in the 2026 budget, prompting the House of Representatives to summon senior officials for accountability. Simultaneously, the Osun State Panel of Inquiry examined police brutality claims, hearing testimony from an inspector and confronting tensions between legal counsel and panel staff.

Human‑rights groups subsequently petitioned the Inspector‑General of Police over the alleged arbitrary arrest and detention of two Imo State residents, Engr. Leonard Uzoma and Ndubuisi Uchehara, who say they were seized by the Force Intelligence Department at the request of estate developer Michael Igbo over a dispute about an electricity transformer. The petition details claims of physical assault, tear‑gas use and humiliation, and calls for investigation.
