Nigeria Police Probe and Osun Inquiry Highlight Legal Turmoil

Nigeria's anti-graft agency, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), attempted to interview suspect Adeyemi at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre. The session was delayed because Adeyemi’s new lawyer was absent; it resumed later with legal representation but was not concluded. The probe concerns allegations about the creation and operations of a purported council and its inclusion in the 2026 budget, prompting the House of Representatives to summon senior officials including the Secretary to the Government, the National Security Adviser, the Attorney‑General, the Inspector‑General of Police and the Accountant‑General.

In a separate but related development, the Osun State Panel of Inquiry into police brutality heard testimony from police inspector Muritala Alayande. During cross‑examination, the panel’s legal officer, Francis Osie, threatened to slap the petitioner's lawyer, Barrister Kayode Adebisi. The case involves businessman Paul Adeolu, who alleges that police colluded with criminal syndicates to defraud him of N36 million and that he was tortured while in custody.
