Nigeria political shifts: APC gains members in Kogi and criticizes Governor in Oyo
In Kogi State, approximately 500 members from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The group, which includes African Democratic Congress (ADC) Women Leader Ebunlola Abolarin, announced their move during an empowerment programme in Ogidi, Ijumu Local Government Area.
In Oyo State, the APC has criticized Governor Seyi Makinde following a recent media engagement. The party described the Governor's Sunday night media chat as a “waste of time,” alleging that he failed to address critical issues facing residents and instead focused on topics of little concern. The APC also criticized the Governor's choice of a private radio station over the state-owned Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, which they claimed has become moribund under his administration.
These political developments occur amid ongoing realignments in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
