Nigeria Premier Football League announces N1 billion prize for 2026/27 champions
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will introduce a record prize fund for the 2026/27 season, awarding N1 billion to the champions, N500 million to the runners‑up and N300 million to the third‑placed team. The new payment structure was approved by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) during a high‑level meeting in Abuja.
NSC chairman Shehu Dikko said the earnings package is part of a broader effort to raise the league’s commercial value, improve player and coach welfare, and enforce stricter club licensing. The reforms aim to attract greater investment, boost the competitiveness of Nigerian domestic football and lay groundwork for future international competitions.
