Nigeria prepares for 2026 Fashion Week focused on sustainability
Nigeria is preparing for the 2026 Nigeria Fashion Week (NFW) in Abuja, scheduled for October 2 to 4. The event, themed ‘Beyond the Runway: Fashion and Culture at the Heart of the Green & Blue Economy (Going Green 5)’, aims to integrate fashion with sustainability, innovation, and economic growth.
The European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS have confirmed support for the initiative, specifically focusing on the ‘Going Green 5’ program. This component promotes circular production, recycling, upcycling, and responsible sourcing to reduce waste and create new employment opportunities through creative reuse.
In a related development of cultural and economic cooperation, China and Nigeria are exploring deeper ties within the creative industries. A China-Nigeria Fashion Show held in Abuja served as a platform for cultural exchange, showcasing traditional attire such as Chinese Hanfu and Qipao alongside Nigerian Yoruba Aso-Oke and Agbada. Officials noted that such interactions foster innovation and provide a dialogue between the two civilizations through design and craftsmanship.
