Nigeria prepares for inaugural EKO 2026 National Intermediate Games

The National Sports Commission (NSC) is finalizing technical and operational arrangements for the inaugural National Intermediate Games, known as EKO 2026. Scheduled to take place from October 1–15, the event is expected to host over 14,000 young athletes from across Nigeria.

During a recent Joint Technical Committee meeting in Lagos, officials approved measures regarding athlete eligibility, talent identification, competition logistics, accommodation, and medical services. A key resolution confirmed that participation is restricted to athletes born between January 1, 2008, and September 30, 2011, to ensure competition integrity.

Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the NSC, described the Games as a vital bridge between grassroots participation and elite-level competition. He commended the Lagos State Government and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their commitment to providing the necessary facilities and systems to host the event successfully.
