President Bola Tinubu advances legal reforms, regional commissions and Abuja infrastructure in Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pursued several initiatives across Nigeria. He urged the Senate to repeal the 2015 Administration of Criminal Justice Act and replace it with a new 2026 version to address delays, technology gaps and coordination problems in the criminal justice system. The administration also created four new regional development commissions – South East (SEDC), South West (SWDC), North West (NWDC) and North Central (NCDC) – and established a Federal Ministry of Regional Development to coordinate them.
In the education sector, the Ministry of Education announced that assets seized from cyber‑crime operations, including furniture and bedding, will be redirected to federal schools and newly created institutions such as the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
Tinubu’s government has also focused on infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory, commissioning the Collector Road C01 with a bridge and the N2 Transit Way linking the Central Business District to Wuse. Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike highlighted the removal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account, allowing commercial‑bank financing for projects. The President described the Abuja developments as a blueprint for national transformation.
