Nigeria President Bola Tinubu says reforms have cost him sleep and weight

President Bola Tinubu told Nigerians that the fiscal and economic reforms pursued by his administration have taken a personal toll on him, saying he has lost sleep and weight just like many citizens. He made the comments after being declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary for the 2027 election, securing 10,999,162 votes and defeating his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, who received 16,503 votes.

Speaking at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu described the past three years of reforms as a shared national hardship, highlighted the peaceful nature of the primary – with no bloodshed or rancour – and recalled watching the vote count on television, noting large crowds in Kano, Kaduna and Calabar. He expressed humility and gratitude for the party’s support and reaffirmed his commitment to the reform agenda.
