Nigeria President Tinubu Orders Rebuild of Failing Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway Section

Federal Minister of Works Dave Umahi announced that the Ibadan axis of the Lagos‑Ibadan expressway, completed by Julius Berger, is deteriorating severely, with the pavement rotting and folding, posing a danger to traffic. President Bola Tinubu instructed the Ministry of Works to commence the procurement process to reconstruct the damaged segment using reinforced concrete pavement technology.

The Federal Executive Council also approved the concession of the entire Lagos‑Ibadan corridor to Aspect Concession Limited under a modified switch‑approach model. In the same briefing, Umahi reported completion of the first 118 km of the Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano Highway and outlined 23 road projects across multiple states, totalling about N2.078 trillion, as well as a 409 km dual‑carriageway in Niger State to be built by the Dangote Group at a cost of ₦1.8325 trillion.
