Nigeria pushes women’s economic empowerment with Kwara policy adoption and federal outreach

Kwara State validated and domesticated the national Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy, becoming the first state in Nigeria’s North Central zone to do so. The ceremony in Ilorin featured Commissioner for Women Affairs Chief (Mrs) Oluwakemi Opeyemi Afolashade, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, which highlighted the state’s high readiness scores and called for greater credit access and vocational training for women.

At the same time, Federal Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman‑Ibrahim visited Adamawa State, urging Women Affinity Groups to strengthen savings and seize new economic opportunities. She noted that the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale‑Up has reached more than 1.3 million women nationwide, with over 55,000 members in 2,445 groups in Adamawa, and reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to inclusive growth.
