Nigeria religious leaders hold nationwide prayer rallies over worsening insecurity

In Akure, Ondo State, Samson Oluwamodede, General Overseer of the Prayer Centre Church of God, led a three‑hour prayer walk demanding protection for citizens and condemning what he described as a failure of federal and state authorities to curb killings, kidnappings and terrorist attacks. Hundreds of participants marched through the city carrying placards calling for an end to banditry and for divine intervention.

Around the same time, Daniel Olukoya, General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, conducted a special prayer service urging believers to pray for an end to violence across Nigeria. The service was part of an ongoing teaching series and highlighted the need for spiritual support alongside stronger security measures. Other faith groups, including the Nasrul‑Lahi‑L‑Fatih Society (NASFAT), also organised prayers, while Christian leaders, politicians and officials gathered at the Oyo State Government House Chapel to pray for the safe release of abducted teachers and students.

Both events underscore the growing concern among religious and civic leaders over a wave of kidnappings, banditry and terrorism that has affected multiple states, including recent abductions in Oyo and Borno.
