Nigeria resumes Ibadan‑Ife‑Ilesa road reconstruction after ministerial directives
The contractor CBC Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Limited has restarted work on the 108.4‑km Ibadan‑Ife‑Ilesa expressway after a suspension ordered by Minister of Works David Umahi. The minister had directed a review of the concrete mixture, withdrawal of a N2.8 billion palliative certificate, slower carriageway work and deployment of two teams on the shoulders.
CBC says it has complied with all recommendations, adjusted the concrete mix, and completed genuine palliative repairs on an alternate lane. Project manager Engr Anjikwi Anjilibwala reported that about 65 % of the current lane is finished, with the full three‑year project expected to guarantee a 50‑year road lifespan. Residents praised the resumed work and the anticipated economic benefits.
The project, overseen by the state Controller of Works, aims to improve travel, connectivity and commerce along the route, with the contractor committing to immediate maintenance when needed.
