Nigeria Scrabble Federation celebrates African championship sweep
The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) has dedicated its recent success at the 16th African Scrabble Championship in Monrovia, Liberia, to the Nigerian people. During the tournament, which concluded on October 25, Nigeria secured the Best Country award after sweeping the top three individual positions: Abdulmumin Jimoh won the individual championship, George Ezinore finished as runner-up, and Emmanuel Umujose took third place.
This victory brings Nigeria’s record to 15 African Scrabble Championship titles out of 16 editions since the competition began in 1994. The NSF expressed gratitude to the National Sports Commission (NSC) for its support in advancing mind sports within the country.
In a related development, Haruna Adamu has assumed the presidency of the Pan-African Scrabble Association (PANASA). Former PANASA president and Nigerian Scrabble administrator Toke Aka has advised Adamu to prioritize engagement with national federations, strengthen the association’s secretariat, and address administrative challenges through better planning and teamwork to expand the sport’s impact across Africa.
