Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrests suspected human trafficker

The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 25-year-old Bala Abubakar in the Lalan area of Gusau. During the operation, officials rescued two 13-year-old girls, identified as Amira Baje Ibrahim and Haulatu Shaibu, both from the Zurmi Local Government Area.

Preliminary investigations suggest the girls were being trafficked from Shinkafi LGA to Suleja, Niger State. They were reportedly intended for delivery to two individuals, identified as Hadiza and Bara’atu (also known as Yar Baba), for the purpose of child labor.

State Commandant Sani Mustapha has directed that the case be transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and legal action.
