Nigeria seeks defence industry partnership with Egypt
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawalle, led a high-level delegation to Egypt for a two-day visit to key defence industry establishments. The mission aimed to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen Nigeria’s indigenous defence production capabilities through sustainable industrial partnerships and technology transfer.
The delegation, which included representatives from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), toured the manufacturing facilities of Eagle International for Defence Systems Company in Suez. During the tour, the team examined various defence systems and studied Egyptian manufacturing processes.
Minister Matawalle emphasized that the visit was strategic and developmental rather than a focus on immediate procurement. He noted that Nigeria seeks to collaborate with Egypt, particularly through DICON, to facilitate the joint manufacture of military equipment. This partnership is intended to expand local content, develop technical expertise, and enable the transfer of relevant defence technologies to Nigeria.
