Nigeria seeks to unlock 600 TCF gas potential through reforms

Nigeria is intensifying efforts to leverage its vast natural gas reserves, estimated at 600 trillion cubic feet (TCF), to drive industrialization and economic growth. Industry leaders and government officials have emphasized the need for governance reforms, predictable regulations, and sustained investment to transform these resources into electricity, jobs, and industrial feedstock.

As part of the ‘Decade of Gas’ initiative, the Federal Government has launched the National Grassroots LPG Penetration Programme. In Akwa Ibom State, this rollout includes the distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders to 27,000 households to promote cleaner cooking alternatives.

To complement these energy initiatives, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno announced a massive empowerment scheme targeting 110,000 women through cooperative societies. Additionally, the federal program is providing financial support to 3,000 women in the state to strengthen local businesses and livelihoods.
