Nigeria Senate leaders urge unity to combat rising insecurity

Senate President Godswill Akpabio opened the resumed 10th National Assembly by urging senators to set aside politics and unite against insecurity. He mourned the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, naming the educators who died, and called for support of lawful measures to strengthen security, protect schools and communities, and hold bandits accountable.

Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, marking his 78th birthday, criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress for plunging the country into poverty, unemployment and insecurity. He called on opposition parties to unite ahead of the 2027 elections to challenge the APC and fulfill the promise of change promised in 2015, warning that millions of Nigerians are grappling with soaring living costs and fear for their safety.
