Nigeria Senate passes bills to establish new universities and medical center
The Nigerian Senate has passed several bills aimed at expanding access to higher education and healthcare services across multiple states.
Legislative measures include the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture in Orogun, Delta State, and a Federal University of Education in Obudu, Cross River State. The latter would be created by upgrading the existing Federal College of Education in Obudu. Supporters noted that the education university would address a lack of specialized institutions in the South-South zone.
Additionally, the Senate approved bills to establish a Federal College of Agriculture in Owa-Olomu, Delta State, and a Federal Medical Centre in Ido, Oyo State. Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed optimism that these initiatives would strengthen the education and health sectors and bring essential services closer to citizens.
