Nigeria Senate urges intensified anti‑terrorist campaign after Oyo school kidnapping rescue

The Senate leadership called on the federal government to sustain and intensify military and intelligence operations against terrorists, kidnappers and bandits across Nigeria, citing the recent rescue of 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted from a school in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State. The senators praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for mobilising the armed forces and intelligence agencies in an intelligence‑driven operation that lasted more than 50 days, resulted in the arrest of eight terrorists, the neutralisation of several others, and caused the deaths of Lieutenant F. A. Isaac, Private Silas Musa and Sergeant Abena John Jerome, with Lance Corporal Adamu Hussain injured. The motion, sponsored by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and supported by 108 senators, also urged prompt payment of death benefits, insurance claims and pensions to the families of fallen security personnel and called for strengthening the welfare, training and equipment of the armed forces and police. Chairman Senator Fatai Buhari seconded the resolution, describing the kidnapping as “Black Friday” and affirming the government’s resolve to deny safe haven to criminal elements nationwide.
