Nigeria smartphone ownership rises to 75 percent

Smartphone ownership in Nigeria has risen to 75 percent, up from 64 percent in 2023, according to the ‘Nigeria Smartphone Study: A Nationwide Analysis of Smartphone Ownership and Digital Application Usage’. The study, conducted by KPMG in partnership with Orange Group Nigeria, indicates a rapid shift toward a mobile-first economy as consumers move from feature phones to internet-enabled devices.

This growth is driving increased usage of digital applications across various sectors, including financial services, commerce, entertainment, education, and transportation. The report attributes the rising adoption to Nigeria’s large, youthful population, improved connectivity, and increased affordability of devices.

Android currently dominates the Nigerian smartphone market, accounting for 96 percent of devices, with Tecno identified as a leading brand. The findings are intended to provide investors and stakeholders with insights into consumer behavior to support the development of the country’s expanding digital ecosystem.
