Nigeria Super Falcons receive promised houses and $100,000 as hotel theft suspect confesses ahead of WAFCON 2026

The Nigerian Federal Government has fulfilled its pledge to the Super Falcons, delivering house keys and depositing US$100,000 into each player's account, announced by National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

During the team’s camp at the Marriott hotel in Rabat/Casablanca, several players—including Chiamaka Nnadozie, Esther Okoronkwo and Michelle Alozie—reported theft of more than US$1,000 in cash and personal items. Moroccan authorities have arrested a suspect who has confessed to the crimes and is expected to return the stolen property.

Players such as midfielder Toni Payne have spoken about the pressure of defending the title and the added stakes of World Cup qualification, while Ghana’s Black Queens have opened their campaign seeking a first WAFCON crown. The tournament, expanded to 16 teams, doubles as Africa’s qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and features a record US$2 million prize for the champions.
