Nigeria targets major gas pipeline and offshore energy investments
Nigeria is navigating complex energy infrastructure goals, including the development of the African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP), formerly known as the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline. The project, estimated to cost over $25 billion, recently received endorsement from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) following an Intergovernmental Agreement signed in July 2026. However, experts suggest the initiative faces potential delays due to bureaucratic hurdles and the complexities of managing diverse regional interests.
Separately, Nigeria is targeting between $30 billion and $50 billion in offshore upstream oil and gas investments between 2026 and 2030. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) indicates that 22 major offshore projects are expected to drive this growth, aiming to increase crude oil production to three million barrels per day by 2030. Achieving these targets depends heavily on policy reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act and ensuring the security of national assets and pipelines in the Niger Delta region.
