Nigeria: Ten police officers killed in Kebbi State clash

Ten police officers, two civilians, and at least 17 suspected bandits were killed during a violent confrontation in northwest Nigeria. The clash occurred on the morning of August 11 near the Rafin Makuku area in Kebbi State, close to the border with Zamfara State.

According to authorities, the incident began when police intercepted a large group of heavily armed men traveling on motorcycles. Reports indicate the group may have consisted of up to 240 individuals moving in three distinct formations. During the exchange of gunfire, two police officers were wounded and taken for medical treatment.

Security forces have deployed reinforcements to the region as operations continue to track the remaining attackers. This escalation follows recent military airstrikes intended to curb the activities of armed groups in the area, which frequently engage in kidnappings, cattle theft, and attacks on rural villages.
