Nigeria to rank tertiary institutions nationwide using 22 indicators
The Nigerian Federal Government has launched a national ranking exercise for tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The initiative, directed by Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, is being coordinated by the Nigerian Tertiary Education Ranking Advisory Committee (NiTERAC) under the Federal Ministry of Education.
University rankings will be assessed using 22 specific performance indicators, with weightings determined in collaboration with the League of Directors of Academic Planning. The primary objectives of the ranking are to foster healthy competition among public and private institutions and to improve the standing of Nigeria's tertiary education system in global rankings.
Prof. Peter Okebukola, Chairman of NiTERAC, announced that the ranking process for all three sub-sectors is scheduled for completion by December 15, 2026.
