Nigeria troops rescue kidnapping victims and foil terrorist attacks in Zamfara and Sokoto

The Nigerian Armed Forces’ Joint Task Force (North West) rescued three women who had been held captive for three months in Zamfara State and, a day later, ambushed a suspected terrorist group in Sokoto State, seizing a PKT machine gun, ammunition, motorcycles and other equipment. In a separate operation, troops intercepted a logistics supplier on the Sokoto‑Gusau road, confiscating 150 combat boots, knives, tear‑gas canisters and electronic devices.

In Kaduna State, police and vigilante forces freed nine kidnapped farmers, but two officers were killed in an ambush while returning to base. Bandits also burned a primary school in Niger State after demanding and receiving a N10 million levy from local communities. Additionally, a night raid in Sokoto’s Kuda‑Kuda village resulted in the killing of the village chief imam and the abduction of several residents.

These incidents highlight ongoing counter‑terrorism and anti‑bandit operations across Nigeria’s north‑west region, with security forces emphasizing intelligence‑driven tactics and the recovery of weapons and equipment to disrupt criminal networks.
