Nigeria U-19 women's cricket team defeats Uganda in World Cup qualifier
Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens secured a four-wicket victory over Uganda in their opening match of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 in Tanzania.
After Uganda won the toss and elected to bat, Nigeria’s bowling attack restricted them to 59 for 7 in 20 overs. Chisom Okpe led the effort with figures of 2 for 4, while Peace Usen took 2 for 12. Shadiah Gilingish Nabulime was the top scorer for Uganda with 22 runs.
In the chase, Nigeria reached 60 for 6 in 13.1 overs to win. Despite a standout performance from Uganda’s Tino Sarah, who claimed 5 wickets for 13 runs, Nigeria maintained composure. Omosigho Eguakun contributed 24 runs, and captain Christabel Chukwuonye added 13 runs to secure the win.
The tournament is being held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Nigeria is scheduled to face Malawi next in their campaign to qualify for the World Cup.
