Nigeria urges voter education and security reforms to curb election violence

Political communication expert Adepoju Tejumaije of the University of Lagos called for continuous voter education, stronger security measures, and civic education to prevent election‑related violence in Nigeria. He urged the government, INEC and civil‑society groups to intensify public enlightenment through TV, radio, newspapers, social media and billboards before polls, and to deploy trained security personnel, including the military, near polling stations as a deterrent.

Tejumaije also advocated introducing curriculum on political violence in schools, improving intelligence gathering to stop planned attacks, and increasing transparency through technology to reduce corruption and the drive for violent power struggles. He expressed optimism that the 2027 elections could be free of violence if these steps are taken.
