Nigeria Youths and Civil Society Urge Unified Action Against Insecurity

Hundreds of young Nigerians gathered at the National Assembly in Abuja, marching with banners calling for all political parties and citizens to unite against terrorism and the country's escalating insecurity. Speakers such as Comrade Austin Okhai urged former military and security leaders to lend their experience, emphasizing that disunity hampers any effort to defeat terrorism.

A separate coalition of concerned Nigerians—including civil‑society groups, traditional leaders, and private‑sector representatives—issued a press statement demanding coordinated action to address the security crisis. The statement highlighted growing threats to democratic institutions, electoral manipulation and the erosion of judicial independence, linking these issues to rising extremist violence, banditry and child abductions. It called for regional intelligence cooperation with Sahel states, youth employment programmes, a special envoy to the Sahel, and active involvement of religious and traditional leaders to promote peaceful co‑existence.

Both initiatives stress that only a collective, non‑partisan response can stem the tide of insurgency, kidnapping and communal conflict that have displaced thousands and disrupted education across Nigeria.
