Nigerian actress Clarion Chukwura urges President Tinubu to arm vigilante groups amid security crisis

Veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwura addressed an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, praising his plan to create state police but warning that full deployment could take one to two years, especially in rural areas where kidnappings are common. She linked the surge in crime to widespread poverty and unemployment, arguing that Nigerians cannot wait for the long‑term reform.

Chukwura called for immediate action, urging the government to allocate part of the National Security Emergency Intervention Fund to equip and legally empower community vigilante groups and to provide armed security personnel for schools. She condemned recent kidnappings of children and appealed for the president to demonstrate compassion through swift, practical measures to protect communities while the state police framework is being established.
