Nigerian Army arrests ISWAP collaborators and reports soldier killed in Borno

On July 28, 2026, the Nigerian Army’s Operation Hadin Kai announced a series of arrests across Borno State targeting logistics supporters and collaborators of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Troops from the 135 Special Forces Battalion, aided by the Civilian Joint Task Force, captured 10 suspects in Kurnari with cattle, tricycles, phones, cash, and other items. A later operation by the 149 Battalion seized another supplier in Zowo Village, retrieving 125 litres of petrol and a mobile phone. The 19 Brigade apprehended a suspected informant in Monguno, and patrols recovered an abandoned 60 mm mortar bomb and an RPG bomb.

In a separate raid on a military base in Damasak, Mobbar LGA, ISWAP gunmen killed a captured Nigerian soldier, burned a military tanker and several structures, and shot indiscriminately at troops, according to eyewitnesses and video released by Amaq News Agency.

Also on July 28, soldiers from the 109 Special Forces Battalion detained two alleged ISWAP collaborators, Modu Collu (20) and Bashir Goni Tijani (47), in Magumeri LGA, seizing a Tecno mobile phone for forensic analysis. The arrests are part of ongoing intelligence‑driven efforts to disrupt insurgent logistics and support networks in Nigeria’s northeast.
