Nigerian Army Chief Waïdi Shaibu Orders Tightened Security on Borno Humanitarian Aid Corridor

Lieutenant General Waïdi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, directed army commanders to reinforce security along the Dikwa–Gamboru Ngala humanitarian corridor in Borno State. The order calls for stronger convoy escorts, intensified patrols and closer coordination with humanitarian agencies to protect aid deliveries for nearly six million people dependent on assistance in the north‑east.

The directive was issued during a meeting in Abuja with Danielle Parry, head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) in Nigeria. Both sides emphasized deepening partnership, improving forward logistics through local warehousing and advancing the UN OCHA Humanitarian Reset Initiative as the army continues de‑congesting IDP camps and supporting community resettlement.

The move aims to safeguard humanitarian workers and supplies from lingering terrorist threats, ensuring that relief operations can proceed safely while the military consolidates its counter‑insurgency gains.
