Nigerian Army Chief Waidi Shaibu reinforces humanitarian partnership and anti‑drug measures

Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu affirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to humanitarian protection during a courtesy visit by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) head Doris El Doueihy in Abuja. He said the army has fully integrated International Humanitarian Law and human‑rights principles into training, is implementing a Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Plan, improving detention management and facilitating humanitarian access in conflict‑affected areas.

Shaibu also led a sensitisation seminar for commanders in Benin, stressing zero tolerance for drug and substance abuse and the importance of integrating lessons learned from joint operations into tactical planning. The programme addressed drug abuse, PTSD management and feedback mechanisms to enhance combat readiness, reduce casualties and strengthen professional, adaptable forces capable of meeting Nigeria’s security challenges.
