Nigerian Army expands from eight to twelve divisions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restructured the Nigerian Army, increasing the number of divisions from eight to twelve to bolster national security. This reorganization aims to address persistent challenges such as banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery across various regions.

In Kwara State, residents and local leaders have welcomed the move, noting that a new army battalion will be stationed in Omu-Aran to serve the Kwara South region. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and military officials expressed optimism that the increased presence will restore public confidence and protect vulnerable communities.

In Edo State, the establishment of the 83 Division in Benin City has been commended by local advocacy groups. They noted that the new command will facilitate faster response times to security threats, improve intelligence gathering, and enhance surveillance of major roads, waterways, and border communities in the South-South region.
