Nigerian Army intercepts drug shipments destined for terrorists in Borno and Katsina
Troops of the Nigerian Army seized a large drug consignment on July 9, 2026, in Borno State after intercepting a Chadian courier, Mrs Rachael Samuel, traveling toward the Lake Chad Islands. The haul included about 30 kg of cannabis, two 10‑litre containers of hydromercuric chloride, 48 bottles of dry gin, 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic drinks and other items, valued at millions of naira. The suspect was taken into military custody and the evidence handed to law‑enforcement agencies.
A day earlier, Nigerian forces working with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrested three men in Kafur, Katsina State, who were accused of supplying cannabis, tramadol, pregabalin, diazepam, Extol‑5 tablets, rubber solution and “Suck and Die” spirit to terrorist and criminal networks. The suspects were transferred to the NDLEA for investigation. Both operations are part of a broader effort to disrupt the logistics and supply chains that sustain terrorist groups in Nigeria’s north‑east and north‑west regions.
